Organize your natural hair supplies with me.
Do you have all of your hair care supplies in places where you are most likely to use them daily? Are your supplies ready to use at the end of the night and in the morning before you start your day.
Organizing your hair care supplies can help you stay more consistent with your care.
In my practice, I see women achieve success in their natural hair journey when they have a consistent home care routine in addition to regular salon visits.
Their routines are very simple, but consistent.
Daily care can be very simple AND have a huge impact on your hair.
Consistency is key. Your hair wants love and attention, even when you wear protective styles.
Steaming your hair with water occasionally and protecting your hair while you sleep are two simple practices that can help your hair thrive.
I believe 'natural hair is easy'
Of course we know . . . easy comes with practice.
I am encouraging you to organize your natural hair supplies as a way to get and stay motivated to choose healthy practices for your natural hair.
As you go through your supplies, this is a good time to set goals for the coming year. Reflect on weather the products, tools, and styles that you chose were a good fit or not.
You can record your thoughts and plans in a paper or digital journal dedicated to hair care.
Now, let's get our natural hair supplies organized! Some of us are going to have to do a little bit more wrangling than others.
Gather supplies from all around your house. We’re going to collect, declutter, organize, then distribute our supplies back to the places we are more likely to use them in a neat and organized way.
I suggest using large baskets to hold smaller containers of cups or bowls so each supply can have it’s own space. You’ll sort through your all of your supplies and collect like items together.
Once you have all of your supplies separated think about where you should place smaller collections of your supplies. I like to think of these as emergency kits or quick maintenance kits.
I don’t want to go in my bathroom closet to my hair basket if I need a hairpin or ponytail holder right before bed.
I also keep a small basket inside a vanity drawer so I can style or touch up my hair while I’m getting dressed.
You are more likely to love and protect your hair when supplies are easily within reach.
Examples of items in you can put in your Beauty Baskets
Bathroom closet: large supply basket full of everything you have for your hair care. It hold other containers of like items
Nightstand: When you get settled and don't want to get up :) Everything you need to wrap your hair and protect it from split ends while you sleep is easily within reach.
Vanity: Same items as above with the addition of a few products to use for daily styling: I suggest a spray bottle for quick and thorough application.
Before we get started there are a few questions you may consider while thinking about how you want to set up your supplies.
To get started find a work space that will hold all your stuff.
Check closets, drawers, and all the places you have stray hair care items.
Have a bag/box handy for all your non hair care items and start sorting through your supplies.
You can repurpose and recycle containers to use for storage. Assess before you toss. You can reuse the jars that gel or grease comes in to store rubber bands, clips, plastic bags, etc.
Now it's time to go through your supplies.
🗑 Toss or donate old suppliels:
NOTE ABOUT SHELF LIFE: I have checked a few sources and depending on ingredients, the shelf life of shampoo can be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years for an opened bottle. An unopened bottle can last for 2-4 years if properly stored. Cool dark place.
The shelf life of most hair products is up to three years, although certain organic products can have a shorter shelf life. I would check with the manufacturer if you have questions about a product you think may be on the line and you really want to keep.
♻️ Recycle
🧺 Gather like items
Collect like items in your chosen container. Or collect items based on how you will use them, ie. shampoo, conditioner, detangler.
The idea is to have all the things you need for a hair care session in one place.
Other supplies you may need for organizing
I like the following quote because it makes me think of how this process of organizing will set you up for the next stage of success in your natural hair journey.
These are only suggestions. If you decide to go through this process do what works for your hair care needs and lifestyle. I hope you stay motivated to keep loving your natural hair.
Thanks for your support!
Happy Organizing!

Hi there! I hope you are doing well. I'm dropping by to share my schedule for the next few months. You do not have to schedule now if you do not know when you want to come in yet. I have made lots of changes to my service offerings and I want you to have access to the service appointment calendar first. Keep a look out for another email in about a week. I'll be sharing the services that I'm keeping, the ones that are out, and services I have added to support healthy natural hair care. For the...
Welcome Back! 💐 Appointments Available! 💐 New Product Alert! Happy Spring! (Almost 😉) Thank you for honoring my time away from the salon. It is a much needed annual practice that allows me to reset my energy physically, mentally, and creatively to prepare for another year of service. I have shared with some of you that I intend for this to be my last year practicing as a natural hair stylist. My plan is to conclude services sometime during the late fall. I am not 100% sure what the future of...
